If You Like Urban Fantasy....

Image result for urban fantasy images

As part of the #AskALibrarian Twitter Chat that happens every Thursday from 11-12 (CST), I asked my fellow librarians and authors for some new Urban Fantasy recommendations. Urban Fantasy is defined as a subgenre of Fantasy Fiction in which the narrative has an urban setting. Works of Urban Fantasy are set primarily in the real world, but contain aspects of fantasy, such as discovery of earthbound mythological creatures, or coexistence and conflict between humans and paranormal beings (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urban_fantasy). Some of my favorite authors are Patricia Briggs, Ilona Andrews and Anne Bishop.

I received some great suggestions, so I thought I'd list some authors and series in this post.

Series:

The World of the Others series by Anne Bishop
Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews
Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
Darker Shade of Magic series by V.E. Schwab
The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher
October Daye series by Seanan McGuire
Cal Leandros series by Rob Thurman
Elemental Assassins series by Jennifer Estep
Graywalker series by Kat Richardson
Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn
Walker Papers series by C.E. Murphy

Authors:

Richelle Mead
Holly Black
Deborah Harkness
Neil Gaiman
Jeaniene Frost
C.E. Murphy
Charles de Lint

Books:

The Graveyard Shift by Michael Haspil
An Unkindness of Magicians by Kat Howard
Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse

If you haven't read Urban Fantasy, why not give it a try? It's not for everyone, but there are a lot of great books and series out there that fall within this genre.

Happy Reading!
