Miranda, Megan. The Last To Vanish. 2022. Published by Scribner/Marysue Rucci/Simon & Schuster on July 26, 2022.
I've been a fan of Megan Miranda's novels since All The Missing Girls, cleverly written in reverse chronological order. Some I've liked better than others, but she has a winner with The Last to Vanish. Writing with a sense of dread and foreboding throughout, and ending chapters with page-turning prose, this one definitely kept me almost fully engaged.
Plus, that twist! Rarely do I not see one coming anymore, but it was a good one. And the who-done-it was a complete surprise, too. My only criticism is that the narrative bogged down a bit a few times. But I was invested in the main character, the mystery, and the hunt for answers to all who had vanished. Well done, and my thanks to the publisher for an early read. Keep them coming, Miranda!
